Danilo Tonon, a lawyer from
Veneto with offices in New York, Rome and Milan, bought La Togata in 1996. The vineyards are dispersed, the largest plot being in the esteemed Montosoli site in the north. Only vines at least 20-years-old are used for the Brunello, which is aged in a blend of barriques and larger casks. Togata dei Togati is a single vineyard wine, aged in a higher proportion of barriques. La Togata wines are bold and assertive and the tannins are ripe and powerful.

Rosso
Di Montalcino 2001
100%
Sangiovese
This
Rosso di Montalcino tends a little more toward
the modern style; it is lush and refined with
lots of supple fruit, red and black cherries
and the oak comes through and softens the tannins
and sweetens the fruit. A very elegant Sangiovese.

Azzurreta
IGT Toscana 2001
100%
Sangiovese
I
love this wine. Fantastic aromas of ripe berry
fruit, chocolate, violet and raspberry. Full
bodied, with ultrafine tannins and a long, long
finish. Wonderful to taste. Great harmony. Sangiovese.

Brunello
Di Montalcino DOCG 1998
100%
Sangiovese
The
1998 Brunello di Montalcino, an unusual and
atypical dark ruby with purple highlights, offers
ample berry fruit of good ripeness, herbs, and
chocolate and rich, round flavors of black currants,
rosemary and thyme, minerals and mocha in a
context of fine volume and velvety tannins.
A high level wine, it is difficult to recognize
as a fine Sangiovese from Montalcino.

Brunello
di Montalcino Togata dei Togati 1999
100%
Sangiovese
This
is a new cru from Carlina. This is fantastic.
Loads of dark and rich fruits on the nose, with
hints of toasted oak and tobacco. Full-bodied,
with big velvety tannins and a long, long finish.
A luscious and outrageous Brunello. Voluptuous
and seductive.
