The
Curto have cultivated vineyards in Sicily since
1670, and are agriculturally experienced in
the production of grapes, olives, citrus fruit,
almonds, prickly pears, cereals and vegetables.
In
recent years, the Curto have concentrated on
wine, with particular attention given to the
Nero d'Avola grape. The 200 hectares (494 acres)
of the Curto estate are situated in the relatively
warm and dry climate of coastal Mediterranean,
on rich calcareous clay soils - the ideal climate
and topography for the cultivation of this variety.
