In 1920, Domenico Cabutto purchased the then Tenuta La Volta (The Volta Estate) from Count Gastone Guerrieri di Mirafiori. Located in the Barolo (Piedmont) region only ten miles from Alba, "La Volta" was named after an adjacent castle built between the 10th and 11th centuries. In this now abandoned castle once lived Silvio Pellico -- one of the best-known Italian patriots of the last century who fought for Italian unification and who also wrote My Prisons. The windy exposure of the vineyard and their elevation enhancing the perfumes and the freshness of the wines.

Dolcetto D'Alba DOC 2003

100% Dolcetto

The dark color announces what this is made of: deep flavors, supple and ripe tannins and a sophisticated barriques treatment accented by the violet, plum, cassis, mocha and toasted oak notes. Everything blends beautifully in this smooth, harmonious, medium-bodied wine. Terrific.

Barbera d'Alba Superiore Bricco Viole 2003

100% Barbera

A Barbera with backbone. Grapey, with berry and vanilla highlights. Full-bodied and chewy, with lots of good fruit, medium acidity and a long finish.

Barolo DOCG Vigna La Volta 2000/2001

100% Nebbiolo

Loads of blackberry aromas, with undertones of tar and dried flowers, buttressed with hints of new wood.  Full-bodied, supersoft, with soft tannins and loads of fresh fruit that turns to flowers on the finish.

Barolo Riserva del Fondatore 1997/1999

100% Nebbiolo

Wonderful aromas of plum and dried flowers follow through to a full-bodied palate, with silky tannins and a round, long finish. Hard not to drink now.
